Always thought that a political system that demands support for every single budget proposal, or else cuts off the pay for all public workers, is a recipe for chaos. Funds should not be held back except in those specific cases where the proposal in question has been voted down.

Some right-wingers are doing their best 'fuming' act over the BBC allegedly misleading the world by giving the impression that Trump was in any way connected with the Capitol attacks. Quick reminder: Trump pardoned all those involved in the attacks; they have always had his full support.

A written Constitution becomes an instrument of oppression when one presidential win along with the narrowest senate majority can secure a Supreme Court that will endorse pretty much whatever the Leader commands.

Trump has slashed $723 billion from Medicaid, took healthcare away from 13.7 million Americans, which would cause 21,000 preventable deaths every year, and added $3.94 trillion to the national deficit to fund tax cuts for billionaires.
How can anyone still support Trump, or back mini-Trump?

In 1939, Molotov and Ribbentrop negotiated the 10 year non-aggression pact btw the Soviet Union and Germany. Would anyone think they (or, heaven forbid, their respective bosses) should have been given the Nobel Peace Prize?

Robert Jenrick walks into a room with other Tory leadership contenders. What's that he said angrily about "not seeing another white face around"?
(Better tell Javid, Patel, Sharma, Sunak, Zahawi, Jayawardena, and others to keep away in case Bob loses it completely ...)

Arsonists rely on fire.
The Fourth Reich counts on ICE.

There are those who hear about immigrants who have lived and worked here for years, paid taxes, helped others, contributed to our country,
& yet they don't want them settling here because of (whisper it) the colour of their skin.
What word other than 'racist' would they like for their attitude?

Trump will sanction Russia, but ... and there will always be a 'but', because the chain of command only goes one way, and everyone knows who's really in charge.

In 1984, Orwell warned us about a new form of authoritarianism.
In 2025, Trump shows us exactly how it works in practice.

The few who commit atrocities, wherever they are, should be punished.
But the vast majorities on every side who have not harmed anyone should be able to live in peace.

Is it a time for national mourning,
When pomp & ceremony are served up
For one who inflicts pain on allies,
Tramples on the rule of law,
And treats the vulnerable with contempt?

The 'populist right' politicians share one tactical stance - blame immigrants for everything, and plan for tax cuts for the superrich.
Ever wonder if a plutocratic Faustian pact was made somewhere along the way ... donate to hate-mongers in return for big fiscal gains?

Don't say politics is too controversial to teach,
Without education for better political understanding, every controversy can be turned into an excuse for scapegoat-bashing, or twisted into a 'reason' for rash & counter-productive policy response.

History reminds us of one constant theme:
When power inequalities widen,
Those in weaker positions never do well at the not-so-tender mercy of the strong.
Economic & political disparities threaten us all.

There are two types of people.
Those who are angry that women and children are left to be slaughtered by invading armies.
& those who are furious that help is given to anyone seeking asylum from persecution and wars.

If there is still any doubt about who is in charge,
The Alaska Summit has now surely settled it.

If progressives in the UK don't learn the lessons of the US being taken over by the insidious alliance of xenophobes and plutocrats, then ICE-type authoritarian controls and mass redistribution from the poor to millionaires would come to these shores.

A summit on US soil that provides a platform for Putin to assert his position as a powerful leader, and achieves nothing whatsoever for the US.
Isn't that exactly how it's meant to work for the master and the apprentice ...

Not all communities serve their members well.
Some are dysfunctionally fragmented, some are rigidly oppressive.
But every community can develop cooperatively and inclusively for the wellbeing of all.
Communitarianism is about how to make that happen: www.bloomsbury.com/uk/communita...

The eagle and the bear have a better chance of agreeing to releasing the salmon back into the river,
Than Trump and Putin reaching a deal that genuinely delivers peace and autonomy for Ukraine.

How many children in Gaza were involved in planning the attack on Israel?
Could the Israeli govt be working that out on their Retaliation Calculator to determine how many Gazan children must be bombed and starved in return ...

How about this for an offer:
"Testify that the person who will grant you a complete pardon has nothing incriminating against him in any Epstein materials, and here's your Get-Out-Of-Jail pass."

Impose high tariffs on 'friends' as though they're enemies.
Send nuclear subs towards 'enemies' to give the impression that they're not really friends.
