Besides for creating a wealth of habitat for pollinators, our cover crops are a passive step in improving and maintaining soil health. They sequester carbon and fix nitrogen in the ground, they also help increase organic matter in the soil, reduce compaction, and increase overall nutrient retention.

Mendocino County has historically been at the forefront of environmentally conscious farming practices and it is evident in the clarity of our soil and water quality.

Every year we select over 50 strains to grow so that we can continue to provide all the classic and most cutting edge genetics. Each varietal is truly small batch and unique, not only because of their individual expressions, but also because each is grown at one of 10 different gardens.

Soil, temperature, water source, and naturally occurring mineral and nutrient availability all contribute to a unique spectrum when communing with each flower.

While we are always endlessly thankful for an abundance of rain, it’s hard to not dream of the toasty vibrant Mendocino summers as we start to plan for this coming cultivation season.
