Which none are viable or in use at scale. Except for HVDC but at this point are creating more headache then solving anything. Look at this weeks fighting between Swedens energy minister and Norway for an example of how it works in reality
December 20, 2024 at 9:20 AM
Typical bullying instead of providing arguments. No one has still to provide a viable solution for storing any significant amount of power
December 19, 2024 at 7:22 PM
You need to pay closer attention to the Northern energy markets and politics if you want to understand challenges of wind power. We are at least 10 years ahead of UK and taking a much heavier punch from the German experiment
December 18, 2024 at 9:59 AM
Problem is that we already have excess with a relatively low amount of wind. And it causes prices to drop to negative on windy, which both cannibalising on wind itself and makes non-intermittent alternatives unprofitable

Talks in Sweden has this week shifted to gas turbines as the only option left
December 17, 2024 at 7:08 PM
The point is not where they are stopped but who stands together with the stopper. Denmark cannot stand alone against Russia
December 17, 2024 at 12:39 PM
Im not saying it is all shit. There is definitely a place for intermittent sources in the mix. Just not too much until we have proven technology for storing. As it is right now Northern Europe has too much wind
December 16, 2024 at 6:15 PM
There is no existing technology for storage so?
December 15, 2024 at 7:33 PM
Intermittent power f*cks up the market
Northern Europe had record high prices last few days because Germanys lack of wind. Norway wants to cut the cables. Denmark and Sweden opening up for new nuclear
Everyone can't bank on the same tech and too much wind without storage creates massive volatility
December 15, 2024 at 7:26 PM
Well, I guess time will tell. Right now, it does not look good for wind power
December 10, 2024 at 4:20 PM
I believe it when I see it. So far it mostly causing havoc on the grid and market. My money is on lots of wind farms going bankrupt in the coming years. Almost all Swedish farms are losing money. No one bidding on contracts for the new Danish once is a good indicator
December 10, 2024 at 12:45 PM
HVDC wont help when everyone is banking on the same energy source. NordPool prices already blowing up the market on windy days, making almost all wind farms lose money.

Batteries might be interesting in the future but today not at scale
December 10, 2024 at 12:02 PM
No, it is not. Maybe in the future but not in any way at all today.
December 10, 2024 at 11:48 AM
No, I am right, but so are you. The chart is stupid.

Producing lots of wind and solar during summer makes this chart look good. But in reality it only cases strain on the grid by over producing when demand already is low. On cold winter days solar and wind is of no use
December 10, 2024 at 11:24 AM
Producing lots of wind and solar in the summer means nothing. These kinds of charts are missleading at best. How does it look on the most expensive hour during winter?

Too much intermittent power only cause trouble and dont help when the need is biggest
December 10, 2024 at 11:17 AM
Annual production means nothing if you have no way of storing the energy. You have to look at the production of the most expensive hour of the year to get a real estate
