May this day, of all days, be one wherein you experience beauty in the blasted lands, life in the wild wastes, and effervescent hope that laughs in the grimacing face of even the most devilish enemy.

There is no possible alliance between Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount and Nietzsche’s Will to Power.

American Christians have to choose.

Maybe these tariffs will be a kind warning bell, a way for Americans to examine the fickleness of fortune. “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” I’d rather the gov’t have it, right?

If it’s not good news to the poor, the imprisoned, and the oppressed, then it’s not what Jesus is anointed to do, and thus not truly Christian—no matter how hard some may try to convince us that it’s “biblical.”

I am challenged in days like these, when so much is presented to us that is an affront to our values, our sense of justice, our hopes for our loved ones and communities, because we cannot possibly follow the pain of each of these many wounds toward transforming social action. 1000 cuts, indeed. 💔
