Having started one a couple weeks ago, I would say no. Sets are too synergistic these days and you can build a pretty effective deck without upgrades. However not nearly as good as a modern precon so I’m not sure. They live somewhere between the two I’d say.

Nice! Since you’re here could you explain why if a card like temporary lockdown’s ETB effect doesn’t take place if it gets removed while the trigger is on the stack? It seems a little unintuitive to me and it’s been bothering me that I can’t reason it

Can you explain why the creature (presumably) dying to state based actions after the resolution of Overkill doesn’t cause the effect to fizzle since the creature is no longer a valid target?
