Some nature needs a microscope to appreciate. Check out this majestic #Tardigrade #waterbear found in a sample of soaked moss in a restored floodplain. You can see his 8 claws and round mouthparts. Also present are nematodes and a very fast ameba(?) makes an appearance.

We just had a thing happen!
My partner and I just spent 45 minutes with @mariabamford.bsky.social and it was a blast!
Make sure you follow your favorite comedians. You never know when they might post an offer for a free, private zoom to test some new material or run a set.
Thanks Maria!

This suspicious stray is enjoying refuge from tonight’s single digits in our heated carport cat hut, holding steady at 64 degrees. Ever the household energy warden, this is one concession I’m happy to make.

What would you add? What would you change?

Some of my quick thoughts.

- freedom from monoply
- the right to repair one’s own property
- clean air, water, access to nature and nature’s services

The Yellow-Crowned Night Heron is endangered and protected in Pennsylvania, though not listed elsewhere. Nests have been found in Lancaster, Dauphin, and Cumberland counties. A pair took up residence in midtown Harrisburg above 2nd. This is a photo of that nest circa 2022 w/ four chicks.

The Northern Goshawk protected and #endangered in PA under the Game and Wildlife code. This aggressive interior forest raptor numbered 150-200 in the 1980s. This year (2024) only two nests were located in Pennsylvania’s northern tier according to PGC. Issues include fragmentation and climate change.
