I didn’t like the movie as much because it mangled key parts of the book a bit. Ambiguity had nothing to do with my opinion. Certain sorts of people have an overwhelming need for closure and certainty.

I don’t completely hate it, but there are times when I’m doing a search or entering info into a box and the overlay is opaque and in the way. They need to fix that.

At first I thought “goon state” referred to the thugs employed by the Trump machine to enact repressive violence on our streets. Then I realized you were referring to something people do to themselves instead.

Have to wait for it to hit Netflix…

There’s a whole intricate procedure of turning off the secondary TV and its Roku without shutting off the other TV and Roku. They are different brand TVs yet their remotes still do weird stuff to the other.
November 27, 2025 at 11:43 PM
That requires me to spend more time getting back to where I was than getting a beer, snack, or bathroom break. Plus I have two TVs so I can watch several football games. I’m not even going to get into the rocket science of changing the volume or other settings on one TV without impacting the other.

I have my own issues with remotes. I use Roku devices so I’m like watching a movie and when I get up from the sofa I manage accidentally to tap a button on the remote that either exits to the home screen or into another streaming service.

Got Machiavelli and revolutionary era thinkers checked off in the great piece here, but can’t find Simpsons or Street Fighter unless those were very arcane or nuanced hints.

Yeah I respect the climb, especially at Oscar’s expense. Glad Max didn’t take Kimi nor Oscar take George. Haters gonna hate Lando. Good for him!

Yeah I noticed that too. Why not the Democratic Party?

I hope you feel better soon. I had a sinus infection decades ago and still remember it to this day.

I saw Malum first a couple nights ago then Last Shift last night. I liked Malum much better, but it kinda spoiled Last Shift for me. Malum had more constant anxiety and the most intense jump scares of any movie I’ve seen…but I refuse to watch Lights Out, because

Yeah my seeing Last Shift after Malum set the bar too high. On the flip side it seems people who were fans of Last Shift were often not very impressed with Malum. Watching one might undo the other. Malum turned it up several notches IMO.

I watched Malum then Last Shift over the past two nights. I thought Malum one of the few truly terrifying movies I’ve ever seen. That’s my subjective feel. The jump scares were next level. The pacing and constant creepiness and sense of being alone were great. Hard to evaluate Last Shift so soon.

Sounds great, but will Neil Flynn return as Janitor? His interpersonal dynamic with JD was an important component of the show.

I don’t think Rand was astute enough to deal with technocracy. She was no Brzezinski. To the extent her acolytes fall down the libertarian rabbit hole and become paranoid delusional, they view Brzezinski and the technocrats (Bilderbergs, Trilats, etc) as the antiRand.

This topic has been hashed out a bit before. I’ve seen asserted that she was on food stamps living in ironic poverty, which was not true. She seems to have been well off but accepted social security. Whether that’s hypocritical is a matter of perspective I suppose:

FACT CHECK: Did Ayn Rand Receive Social Security Benefits?
