President Donald Trump zei vrijdag dat hij mogelijk een importheffing zal opleggen aan landen die zijn plan niet steunen om de Verenigde Staten de controle te geven over Groenland. ,,Ik leg mogelijk een tarief op aan landen als ze niet meewerken wat betreft Groenland, omdat we Groenland nodig hebben voor onze nationale veiligheid", zei Trump tijdens een bijeenkomst in het Witte Huis over de gezondheidszorg. Europese landen stemmen hier niet mee in en hebben militairen naar het eiland gestuurd als signaal. Volgens Europese regeringen kan de Amerikaanse overname van Groenland de geopolitieke verhoudingen verstoren. Eerder werd gezegd dat als Amerika geweld zou gebruiken, dit het einde van de Navo kan betekenen. Denemarken is het eveneens niet eens met de plannen van Trump.

Nog steeds niet doorgedrongen tot de Europese politiek.
Ruzie via Microsoft Teams Deense en Groenlandse politici spelen VS in de kaart Een overleg tussen politici uit Denemarken en Groenland is uitgelopen op een fikse ruzie. Niet handig, want de vergadering vond plaats via Microsoft Teams. Lastig om dat geheim te houden voor de Amerikanen. Het ging dinsdagavond om een di gitale ontmoeting tussen de commissies van Buitenlandse Zaken van het parlement van Denemarken en dat van Groenland, het land dat zelfbestuur heeft onder Denemarken,maarwaarde Amerikaanse regering nadrukkelijk naar lonkt.Dat overleg liep niet lekker: Groenlandse politici waren niet uitgenodigd voor een vertrouwelijke vergadering die later die avond plaatshad, en maakten daar stampij over.
