If not being Trump was a persuasive argument to voters it would’ve worked. Ordinary people see a sledgehammer to the failed status quo versus a bunch of elitists holding on to it while refusing to deliver much of anything to restore faith in the system. Until Democrats improve we remain vulnerable.

It’s dishonest to pretend Matt Yglesias thought hasn’t been influential to leading Democratic politicians in recent years. Nobody in the real world actually cares about these erm technically he’s not a consultant therefore you’re being a demagogue to rag on him arguments.

Some centrists have really internalized the idea that anybody more popular than them winning elections is demagoguery. Democrats were cooked as soon as they started making the distinction between “popularists” being good and smart and populists being scary and dictatorial.

Voters are going to keep dropping out if the party refuses to deliver for people. Narrow control of Congress for Democrats with a Democratic President can’t pass shit for people but all of a sudden narrow GOP control of Congress with a GOP president can become dictator? They’re lying to our faces.

Get rid of Citizen’s United and you’ll just end up back with billionaires running issue ads that just so happen to coincide with a candidates platform. Legislate your way out of that and they’ll find another loophole. The fundamental problem is that no individual can be allowed that kind of money.

From polling I remember, the economy and Gaza were the two top cited reasons for staying home. Gaza protest voting was about half as common in swing states than others. I’m not convinced that issue alone cost her the election, but it was an incredibly easy layup she missed.

I think the best analogy is alcoholism. There’s people whose brains are equipped for social media consumption and for whatever reason there’s people whose brain will destroy themselves with any prolonged exposure. And you really can’t help people that aren’t looking for it themselves.

It’s not exactly the same thing but I have friends who have cut out family after they went from Republicans to Twitter brained conspiracy theorists. I think the best you can do is point out that their behavior is evidently alienating them from other people and hope for the best.
