The Next Terrorist Attack And What Comes After (Updated) Timothy Snyder Nov 01, 2025 Six months ago I wrote this post about “the next terrorist attack.” I republish it now (lightly updated) because my fear of this scenario has recently grown much greater. All of the factors described below still apply, and indeed more strongly than before. More good people have departed from the crucial agencies. Many of those who remain are disoriented and angry at what they rightly see to be the total disregard of real threats to national security or indeed the total indifference to US interests that is the hallmark of this White House. More unqualified people are at the top. The government shutdown makes us seem more vulnerable and makes us in fact more vulnerable. It is demoralizing for those who protect us and encouraging for those who wish us ill. We can take it for granted that Trump and his advisors would greet a terrorist attack as an obvious chance to blame their chosen enemies, advance their project of authoritarian regime change, and distract from their own perilous follies. The point of this essay is that the rest of us have to anticipate this chain of events and recognize the sad probability of the attack itself and the absolute predictability of this administration’s response. Prior to this law, Texas was relatively permissive regarding autonomous vehicle testing under earlier statutes, such as SB 2205 (2017), which allowed operation without a human driver as long as vehicles complied with traffic laws, had recording devices, and met federal standards. However, SB 2807 introduces stricter oversight for truly driverless operations, including requirements for safety data reporting, first-responder interaction plans, and potential revocation of authorization if safety standards aren't met. Companies must also demonstrate that their systems can achieve a "minimal risk condition" (e.g., safely pulling over) in case of failure and need to qualify as a level 4-5 autonomous driving based on the SAE standard.

US Department of Justice Acting Director Pollak: I met a woman named Skylar on Hinge, a dating app, in July ‘25, her profile is no longer findable. We had 2 dates (8/4 & 8/16). She claimed to be an au pair in Georgetown. She gave no clues that she was a reporter or recording our dates. Had I a clue, the 1st date would have ended immediately & there never would have been a 2nd one. My profile indicated I did government work but did not specify for which agency. I never discussed what I do @ DOJ. The comments I made were my own personal comments on what I’ve learned in the media & not from anything I’ve done @ or learned via work.
