That's fair.

"Avatar bad" doesn't imply "Marvel good". And frankly, I think you'd have to be blind to miss Marvel's impact on popular culture; I can't throw a rock without hitting SOMETHING influenced by it. you don't have to think it's good (I certainly don't) but it's definitely THERE.

I mean, plenty of us DID for the first one. And then we walked out of the theater going "that was just Fern Gulley with a better SFX budget and worse writing". A person not enjoying media that you did doesn't imply that they didn't give it a fair shake.

The sort of person who feels the need to attack random artists to puff up their own egos is unlikely to read your response in good faith anyways. By all means, give them a chance to be reasonable, but if they refuse to take it, it won't do you or them any good to allow them to keep harassing you.

Hey, here's an idea: quit trying to force genai bullshit down our throats. I switched to firefox in the first place to get AWAY from that garbage.

Ya know, it's weird to me that they only remastered Prime 1 instead of the whole trilogy, I'd really love to replay 3 in HD, it's the best of the series!

"My mind is not unique because I am a member of a species full of individuals with my same mental faculties" and "machines explicitly lacking such faculties can't think" are compatible beliefs; the only way to "reduce" the argument to "chauvinistic solipsism" is to ignore all the important bits.

That is literally what a chinese room is. That's the whole point of the thought experiment. The entire point is that what "seems" to be the case to a naive observer can very easily not be the case in actuality.
December 17, 2025 at 10:23 PM
Going back to what you said before, "being aware of mental content doesn't seem necessary for there being mental content" is a weird assumption to me, because in literally 100% of known cases of "thinking", the thinker IS aware of it. We have no reason to believe that self-consciousness is optional.
December 17, 2025 at 3:52 AM
If "thinking" can be ascribed to truly inanimate objects like "books" and "empty rooms", then the word "thinking" loses all meaning. It's just basic logic that if a system contains a single thinking actor, and they don't understand something, then there is nothing else that can "understand" either.

Nobody can imagine all the ways a terminally online weirdo might respond to a harmless piece of media, nor should they be expected to, especially when they've publicly told the weirdos to knock it off with the parasocial behavior.

Internet be normal about literally anything challenge (impossible)

People are naturally biased toward thinking "I don't understand why X happens, so there's probably a conscious actor behind it", which is what gave us "you got struck by lightning because the gods hate you", but that's not logically sound. Pareidolia is pretty easy to induce.

You're still not understanding. "LLMs might be thinking" is the assertion without evidence. The chinese room thought experiment demonstrates that an unthinking system can fool a naive observer into believing it's "thinking". With LLMs, we know exactly what's in the room, it's just linear algebra.
December 16, 2025 at 9:37 PM
If you think a brain can be a chinese room, that kinda means you misunderstand the thought experiment. Hopefully you can directly perceive your own "thinking"? The chinese room argument isn't a proof against AI sapience generally, but a proof against the illusion "apparent language = thinking".
December 16, 2025 at 6:22 PM
We say "LLMs don't think" because all they are is a fancy chinese room. They don't understand the meaning behind the symbols you give them, they just manipulate those symbols to produce a probable-looking output, which frequently falls apart on scrutiny because the words are meaningless to it.

And if it's already set to auto, you can go the other way around, setting manual ones in case your isp is doing something weird (I use 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8, cloudflare and google respectively, so if one goes down the other still works)

I've heard a lot about the "peace" prize being a tool to legitimize american imperialism lately, and this sure sounds like exactly that.
