Same, I never had any interest in watching after understanding the premise and plot. It’s been happening for some Americans already, I don’t watch trauma p*rn

What publication is this? The deserve to lose any ability to publish again. This is a disgraceful piece of propaganda, not journalism.

This book is so good, it definitely made me think differently about things.

But he was a Nazi before he burrowed into Tesla

Same here!

This is an interesting question, and now I’m pondering. What do you think? Maybe it’s assertion?

More of an indictment of toxic masculinity, the atmosphere he was raised in. I think understanding someone’s context is important. And this podcast in general is so good!

Yeah it didn’t start with him and the Dem party helped get us here. This is not Dem vs Rep, this is rich vs poor.

It’s relevant to current events in the US, and an interesting contemplation of Christianity’s labelling of “good” and “evil”. Plenty of thoughts to chew on with this story. Good luck!

Ohhhh so that’s where it started for me. Makes sense now! That seed was planted early for me but didn’t sprout until about 10 years after first reading the book

I was about the same age when I read it! It was weird and a little off-putting to me at that age. Rereading at 25, I found it fascinating. There’s so much to think on in the book

I agree that seems to be where Mcguire lands. Especially when the books get more into Elphaba’s father and sister.
This makes me want to re-read

I think that’s essential to her remaining a complex and flawed character. I don’t think she’s ever meant to be or be seen as a heroine who is all good all the time.

Yeah that’s another good one, didn’t read it until recently though.

On the same level, for me, as someone placing a raster image in an .ai file and claiming its vector art 💀

Plus, she sticks out in my mind as a unique character because of how she refuses to buy-in to a culture just to belong. I didn’t have many examples of that, a woman who would prefer to be alone than compromise her values and self-respect.

I was too young to “like” it when I first read it, but I was in a phase for 3-4 years of reading difficult books for my age (LOTR, Dune, etc). It really stuck in my head, so I re-read it in my 20s and really liked it. I liked all his books, too.

This is a good point. I read the book at 13, then saw the musical at 16. While I thought the musical was fun, I didn’t appreciate the lack of depth and turmoil that’s present in the book. It’s not like musicals can’t tackle difficult topics.
