And sometimes it is just for myself, seeing my game get prettier gives me a morale boost even though that might not be the most "optimal" thing I should be doing production wise.

This is such a struggle - should I make this prototype game thingy pretty so I have something to share, even though I might end up reworking it all later?

I am in the process of trying not to do it anymore in the hopes that the overall cycle takes less, but man I do need that affirmation sometimes

what players want is not Fun, but Feeling.

fun can facilitate feeling, but feeling is not always fun.

fun is what a toy is; games are more than that and bigger than that.

you can be engaged because you are horrified, or interested in a story, or persisting Despite Everything. these are not Fun.

Switching to having everything typed in my project has helped me catch so many bugs in the editor that I would have caught only in runtime otherwise... It is well worth the additional time investment!
