A whole bunch of bone/antler medieval spoons from Norway superimposed, and an average form (in black) on top. I am really surprised at how similar the scoop part is on these.

The second one went a lot faster, but now I have the complete set of the two soapstone bowls from Jarlshof, Shetland (000-000-136-638-C). Up for sale as a set - in the meantime, will probably use them for experiments 🙂

Got the larger reproduction of the two late Viking age angular soapstone bowls from Jarlshof, Shetland completed. Now off to the smaller one, so it's a complete set :)
Will definitely benefit from lessons learned on this one!

Inside and outside surfaces done, now to round them off. Definitely working on the inside first, than outside was the way to go on this one!

Just about done with the inside.
In the end I chose to hollow out the inside first, but the whole thing felt strange to me. I suspect I'm using the wrong tool (I used the flat-headed chisel as with the Norwegian soapstone bowls). On the inside of the small one, I'll try a different technique

About to make the two angular soapstone bowls from Jarlshof, Shetland, but I don't have muscle memory for this form, as I'm used to making the rounded bowls and troughs from Norway. So, running the various scenarios in my head as to how to start, as every approach has positives and negatives...
