CNN Politics, unless this has been updated somewhere:

“The suspect applied for asylum in 2024, and it was granted earlier this year.”

Old enough to remember that “baby boomer” is much older than this graph shows. I believe it was probably in use pretty much as soon as the experts realised that there had been a sudden boom post-war (so older than me). Fifties?

I think they did vote on the 10th didn’t they? 51-49 against?

Why would they tamper with the figures to make themselves look bad?

Still in use in Australian recipes in my youth (c 50 years ago). Usually a dessertspoon is taken to be about 10 ml or two teaspoons.

But then there’s an Australian tablespoon (20ml, or 1/3 larger than anyone else’s). My mother literally had a whopping 20ml metal spoon, used only to measure and stir

I studied The Scarlet Letter, Lord of the Flies and Animal Farm at High School in Queensland in the 1970s. Others did Catcher in the Rye and Fahrenheit 451. It was regarded as a quite conservative state in those days.

Definitely cape gooseberries in New Zealand too

And yes, there are competing vested interests in Australia, but I gather US beef might not be competitive price-wise either

Australia. According to the ABC, it hasn’t imported US beef since 2005. Original ban was evidently because of BSE and has been lifted, but imports have not resumed apparently because US authorities can’t or won’t say if the beef is actually from the US.

I wonder how long before they realise that no amount of money can buy cures that were never discovered because they killed the research programme?

And the ABC in Australia, which like the BBC is a public broadcaster but independent. You may not be able to access television but their written journalism is very good

It’s a drug trial for HUMAN BEINGS! Also not one of the examples listed by the White House, which include cancer, asthma and HIV research

There’s reams of time and energy currently being wasted on opposing people who are essentially on the same side!

There is no suggestion he has ever supported Trump.

My daughter lives in South Korea. When she talks to her workmates about what has happened, they tell her she is seeing “democracy in action “.

Not everyone outside the US has lost faith. Many of you thought your system would protect you. Now you need to find the right levers.

It certainly is now. I think the vaccine was available when her daughter was born, but perhaps not in widespread use in Australia. I know Gay campaigned for vaccination ever after.
March 2, 2025 at 9:28 AM
When I lived in Canberra forty years ago, Gay Davison, a well-known local journalist, lost her 13 year old daughter to SSPE. I’ve never forgotten her description of watching your healthy child regress through not being able to walk, talk, to death, knowing nothing you do will change the outcome.

Looks like account is in Cyrillic to me 🤨

I am sorry you have had this experience, especially now. As someone who came to New Zealand more than 30 years ago, I can assure you that religious extremism is rare here. The violence is very unusual and the police need to act.

In any event it would only spare them until the next hopelessly corrupt and unethical issue arises, next week
