Intellectually curious and open minded - I hope! Finding comfort in the natural world away from destructive human behaviour. Londoner. Recent grandmother.
Released ownership, not re-leased! - she sold her own home for someone else to live in, and will move into her parents’ old home in a more accessible location as soon as the tenants who parents had while in care homes, have bought their own place.

I assume the golf courses are not owned personally but through a company

I thought a child in maybe Mexico had died of bird flu more than a year ago?

You don’t like dull? You’d prefer someone more fun like Boris Johnson?

It’s really disturbing, isn’t it? Condolences.

A whole generation of postwar homeowners is dying, their children inherit, but themselves are retiring and downsizing, moving somewhere nearer their own adult kids, with better public transport, etc.

Theres no conspiracy here! Person over 90 is in care home, does not want to sell home, house rented to pay fees, person dies and leaves house to only child who decides house more suitable for her than her current place so sells current place. Ask any high st solicitor if this is unusual.

I can’t even remember what the original point was here! Maybe either that there are some landlords who are considerate, or maybe that the property market is so illiquid that rental properties are sometimes necessary to fill a gap, otherwise the whole country would be one long conveyancing chain.

She has sold her own long term home, is moving into a rental, and will move into the house she inherited when her parents’ tenants leave. Involuntarily she owned two properties but she only wants one, to live in herself. When you’re 70 and your parents were 90, this is rational.

Well if Trump were to do that, he’d waste a lot of money, as all lawyers agree he wouldn’t get damages, and he’d alienate those Americans who think the BBC is better than their own media.
November 14, 2025 at 10:43 AM
I don’t see that at all. She didn’t deliberately get two properties, doesn’t want to be a landlord, so now she is releasing one to house a family while living in the other.

Because we’d need to apply and enough voters won’t vote for what it would take to be accepted.

At the other end of this chain, the person who wanted to live in my friend’s former home is happy. The tenants are happy while they look around. My friend is happy in a rental while she waits to move back in. Housing is a very illiquid market and she is making two groups happy by being flexible.

You’d have to be 60 to remember the 70s. At that time you’d have died at 72.
