They also make a lot of textiles for companies like Levi, Zara, H&M etc. They are consistently in the bottom 4 poorest counties in the world. They can’t afford to buy products from the US. Example: road system is extremely poor and people don’t have cars.

Vanilla is in various dessert products, cakes and biscuits. It’s Madagascar’s premier export. They produce some rare earths like cobalt, and hard woods, but both these to the detriment of their rain forests. …
