The Day Spyra and Diavok meet Eyes fixed on the archway to the balcony, I could not see the bay, but I could hear it. Dozens of ship horns floated in with the summer breeze, complemented by the sound of gulls. It was a strangely peaceful day. It didn’t match at all with my sour mood though it at least distracted me as my attendant’s fretted about. They had standing atop on a small wooden podium in the middle of my dressing room that had everyone wall adorned with mirrors. There only two ways out of this damned room, the balcony with its tranquil view of the bay, and the large wooden double doors leading deeper into the bowels of the castle. I would have neither escape until my attendants were satisfied. They draped me in fine silk, a rich magenta dress shirt carefully tucked under a corset of royal purple that was ribbed with dragon bone. Fine golden thread wove through the corset to form the image of a sailboat sailing over my abdomen in rough seas. Black slacks were paired with a tailcoat of more royal purple. The attendants began to hymn and haw, spinning around me as they checked every inch. One caught my eye, Gregor, he was twice my age but looked more like five times. Thin as a whip with six stubby horns lining his bald skull. He had the shape of a crane and a wit mighty of the gods. Tapping a pale ashy finger on his chin, he bemoaned. “MI ‘Lord, could you stop whipping your tail so that we may see it all together?” Several curses bounced around in my head as I willed my tail to cease it’s swishing. Despite years of practice, my tail still revealed my mood. One day soon I would be King of this world and many more. I would rule the Demon Republic and bare the many ironies of its name. The ships, the people, and all the seas would be my responsibility. Yet my tail is swishing at the thought of meeting the one thing in between me and my crown………my betrothed. She was a noble woman that I was promised to upon her birth, the first source of my ire. Due to the… It was time to give myself a once over in the mirror. My ebony spiral horns akin to a ram were dusted in gold right at the tips, my large feet had been shoved into dress shoes, and a light dusting of even more gold was applied to my bronze cheeks. Topped with all the finery they had included with my attire, I looked like….. …… a roasted and dressed bird! Before I could even speak my distaste at their choices, the doors to the dressing room began to groan as they were pushed open just a crack. A messenger huffed and puffed as his feet slid against the sand-colored tiles of the floor while his arms wiggled against the door. Gregor took mercy on the young boy to pull the door open just enough for him to jump to the ground, firmly pressing his forehead to the tiles. After a quick few gasps, the boy shouted, “Prince Daivok, Lady Spyra has arrived!” A new ire irritated my sensibilities, her timing was terrible. With all eyes on me, I proclaimed, “Have her meet me in the Sea Throne!” The messenger jumped to his feet as if I had slapped him and ran for the door without looking, luck for him, Gregor opened it again just in time. A silence fell over us all as we listened to the tapping of his feet fade down the hall. “How am to meet her looking like this!” I roared to Gregor and the dozen other attendants. Gregor, with his usually calm, said “As you are, The King indicated that he wanted you to look this way, we are no gods, so no miracles.” He added as he saw my chest glow with an inner flame. “You don’t look bad, more just ready for a Gala.” Casting a glance back to the mirror, I attempted to see Gregor’s point, my side profile didn’t help though. I looked very top heavy, like a upside down tear drop. I was very humanoid in build but my shoulders gave away part of my heritage. I snorted to Gregor. “Does my father like to forget that Mother was part Behemoth?” A chuckle managed to escape Gregor’s strict demeanor. “To be fair, she didn’t look it, honestly didn’t believe he… “Having an open heart was how she got betrayed.” The words fell out of my mouth before I could stop them. Two years ago, my mother was poisoned by her own lady in waiting, the lady had been paid off, she did it for something as pointless as money. I hope that money is good in hell. Gregor knew that rehashing this conversation was going to be no good, so he gently patted me on the back to get going. The Sea Throne was luckily not far from my quarters. If I could dig down through the floors, I would reach it in a minute at most, but for those coming through the front door, well its quite the walk. The Sea Throne was one of two throne rooms the castle had, and it was meant for meeting those that lived under the waves. It’s sister, The Earth throne, was for those that lived above the waves. It was designed this way to ease tensions. The conflict was referenced in their respective artworks but after 10,000 years ago, details were lost and broad stokes were hazy. Tan Tiles gave way to polished sea rock, wooden walls became carved out caves, and the air of incenses blew out of my nose by the smell of the salty sea. The carvings on the walls started to show battles, simply form with no bother clothing or facial expression yet terror was clear by body posture. People of the sea being dragged away by those with wings just to dropped hundreds of feet to their deaths. People of the earth using their arms to shield the faces of the children or themselves. One of those few broad strokes remaining that could understood from The Sister Thrones, Tierasion were monsters. Gregor feet skipped on the rock, making me whip my head up to see someone already standing by The Sea Throne wearing a navy-blue cloak that covered everything. My brain turned trying to figure out how anyone from Lady Spyra’s party could have made it here already, it was a good 15-minute walk from the front entrance, and the messenger would have needed time to run back. Clearing my throat, I questioned the f… Without a word, she unclasped the cloak and draped it on the throne, the audacity made Gregor choak on his breath behind me. All she was wearing was simple white linen shirt and black slacks, though the pants looked odd. Around where it be mid-calf on me, there was a kink on each leg making the bottom half of her legs make a C shape. Walking towards me, there was a bit of a bounce to her. All around I was just confused on who this might be out of Lady Spyra’s party. “Wow, they really dressed you up like a bird for this, what, were you all worried I would bail.” Her words struck through me like lightning, shaking me to my core. Her smile seemed to become adorable, her form become intoxicating, and I swear the scent of lavender filled the room. This woman was Lady Spyra. She had my heart at the first insult.

The inside of the bar continued the theme of a pond with wooden floors stained a deep blue while interior logs had pond grasses and lily pads. It was only disrupted by the roaring fire that sat in a chimney of black stone. A cat lounged on the stones; it was a black tabby of immense size clutching a play mouse sleepily in its paws. Pushing her towards the cat, Kielee chuckled “cuddle the cat while I see what information I can get out of the Bartender.” Crossing her arms, Akira grumpily walked over to the cat, at her presence the cat rolled onto its back, revealing its belly while nestling its mouse under its chin. A smile managed to play on Akira’s face as she reached down and started to rub the cat’s belly slowly. A rumbling purr came from the little feline.

Two Minute Tale Vaccine The little girl waited eagerly at the window. Right on time, there was movement down the path. Her mother came running, swinging past the gate and slamming through the door to their tiny home. Pressing the door with her back, she panted in fear and excursion. The little girl exclaimed excitedly, “Mami, you’re home!” The mother banished all fear from her face to give a smile to her girl. “Yes I am, have you been good?” Nodding enthusiastically, the girl asked “DId you get soup, you were at the soup place, right?” A brief flash of panic crossed the mother’s face before she banished it. “I got the opening times wrong, I’ll go tomorrow.” A flash of red caught the little girl’s eye as she exclaimed in panic, “Mami, you are bleeding!” The mother lowered her head slowly to see her calf bleeding from 2 large punctures surrounded by 7 smaller holes. She assured as she made her way to the phone. “Ohh that’s nothing, baby, don’t worry about it” Glancing on the sticky notes pinned to the fridge, she pressed the phone between her cheek and shoulders as she started to dial the number that was circled several times. It rang once before a message played “We do not have anymore vaccines, I repeat we do not have anymore vaccines, calling again will not help, in the event of a bite, please follow these instructions, find a knife of over 6 inches, line it up between the 4th and 5th rib, and pres….” The mother slammed the phone down. The little girl whimpered, “Mami, what’s happening?” The mother turned with the biggest smile the little girl had ever seen. “Nothing.” Walking over, the mother grabbed her daughter’s face, pressing a kiss to her forehead. The girl only noticed now how sweaty and shallow her mother’s face was, as her mother explained, “I’m gonna go in my room, don’t follow ok, you can’t, when you hear a bang, call Uncle, it’s the blue sticky, he’s gonna come play with you.” She stood ignoring her baby’s questions and pleas. The little girl was left in the small living room. Waiting Waiting Waiting BANG The little girl rushed to the phone, carefully punching in every digit. “The number you have reached is not in service”
