We observe highly distributional effects in India’s labour market, which we think is a form of ‘occupational restructuring’, whereby firms updated their employment needs, prioritizing some occupations over others.

We find that India’s exports to the U.S. declined across many sectors, with transportation manufacturing hit particularly hard (a fall of more than 20%).

In our paper, we link detailed monthly trade data with monthly household-level data from India to estimate the distributional effects of the U.S. terminating India’s access to its Generalized System of Preferences (GSP).
