Over 200 fires were detected on the 11th and 12th of July 2025, in Northern Ireland. Using FIRMS from NASA.
One of the largest being on Donegall Road in Belfast. A bonfire located next to an electricity substation which supplies the power to Belfast City Hospital and the Royal Victoria Hospital.

In 2014 I hiked a section of the Great Wall of China.
I did a write up about it on the Great Wall Forum afterwards, but the forum is now gone. So have moved my write up to my blog.

The speed limit for Local roads in Rural areas of Ireland was recently changed from 80km/h to 60km/h. This was a huge undertaking, and impacted an estimated 73,000 km of roads.

Storm Éowyn had a significant impact, particularly in Connemara and the Midlands of Ireland. Where the storm left widespread devastation, with over 130 power outages still being recorded two weeks later by ESB Networks, despite thousands of outages being fixed in that time.

Éowyn was the most powerful and severe storm to hit Ireland since Hurricane Debbie in 1961. The wind speeds broke an 80-year-old record for the country. Based on Copernicus Climate Change Service wind gust data ranging back to 1960, 30% of Ireland experienced the highest gust speeds on record.
