First time in a few years that we managed to go up to the Highlands. Cracking October day and lovely views from Ben Vorlich. #Munrobagging #photography #autumn

Lots of fungi out in the forests at the moment such as these photogenic fly amanita. #naturephotography #fungi

I came across these fungi on a dead tree today. Just masses of them in one place. I think they are of the genus Armillaria (honey fungus). #nature #fungi #photography

At Dirleton Castle I encountered a weird cross over of LoTR and Monty Python; the Witch-King of Angmar was taunting us! Luckily there were no flying cows!

A tunnel near us is used by the local grafitti artists for all kinds of pop culture art. Currently it has some cool Pokemon graffiti. #pokemon #urbanphotography #Mewtwo #Haunter #Pikachu #Gastly

The puffin photos from Westray I took with my small camera are better than from my phone. Nothing like the quality you would get with SLR plus telephoto lens but they are a lovely memory of seeing so many of them and have them flutter above us as we had our lunch. #orkney #wildlife #photography

Another site in the #HeartofneolithicOrkney. Skara Brae, the best preserved neolithic village in northern Europe. It would have been further from the sea 5000 years ago but today it is beautifully located by a white beach in the Bay of Skaill. More details in ALT. #photography #Orkney

Ring of Brodgar, Stone Circle and Henge is thought to be around 5000 years old. The stones themselves, came from at least seven different sites in Orkney. It is interesting to think about this place brining people from all over the islands together. #heartofneolithicorkney #photography

Puffin! We saw a few puffins on our visit to Birsay, a tidal island reached by a causeway from the northwest tip of the Orkney mainland. We are hoping to see more tomorrow. #orkney #wildlife #seabirds

The signs here made me laugh. One says "Beware the rabbit", another "Chickens the pet that poops breakfast" and the third has an image of a cockerel and reads,"Beware of the tiny raltors on patrol". #funnysigns

Orphir round kirk, thought to have been build in the 12th century Haarkon Paulssen, Earl of Orkney. It is the oldest surviving round church in Scotland. It is beautifully located by the coast. #orkney #photography

Sometimes it is the not so famous things on the sidelines that capture the imagination. A little standing stone near Barrhouse village. #neolithicbritain #orkney #photography

Leaving Aberdeen ferry terminal to travel to Orkney! I hope I can capture some nice photos of the visible remains of the rich Orkney history over the coming weeks! #photography #travelling

Poppy with loose watercolour. Not sure I like this style. 😕 But they are currently so abundant, so i felt inspired. #poppy #flowers #art #watercolour

Foxgloves are now brightening up the countryside. These were just above a patch of gorse which fell victim to a small wildfire a while ago after we had no rain for five weeks. #photography #bloomscrolling #flowers

Looking through my photos to find some references for Derwent Water, I came across this one of Castlerigg Stone Circle. It is not as impressive as others in terms of size, but its location, surrounded by the Lakeland Fells makes it one of my favourites. #Castlerigg #photography #neolithicbritain

The weather has become more unsettled (a.k.a. normal Scottish spring weather) but the weeks started with a lovely sunny morning. #photography #flowers

The previous post reminded me, that we were in #Keswick a couple of years ago and walked along Derwent Water. I love the #LakeDistrict and that is part of the reason why I like the Joe Lake books. #photography
