There should have been an investigation into obstruction of congress under 18 USC 1505 by the DoJ, and there MOST DEFINITELY should have been state statutory rape charges brought in Florida. The FL AG isn’t under Garland, but is a Republican. END/

I consider that a failure of Garland and the DoJ in this case. Additionally, why in the hell didn’t the Florida state attorney general bring statutory rape charges? DoJ has a gray area about knowing the age of the victim, but the state of Florida provides no such allowance. 7/

Or perhaps there was an obstruction probe opened and Garland didn’t have the evidence needed to charge? In that case, I think there was sufficient public interest that we be INFORMED of the declination to prosecute. 6/

According to the report, much of Gaetz’ obstruction happened in 2023 and 2024, well after Biden’s appointee arrived in Florida. Perhaps the committee failed to inform DoJ of the obstruction? 5/

Additionally, Gaetz’ ex girlfriend pled the 5th, and the other victims were reluctant to testify. HOWEVER - and here’s my complaint - why wasn’t there an obstruction of Congress investigation into Gaetz by Garland’s DoJ? 4/

Second, and I’ve talked about this, the DoJ probe of Gaetz was largely conducted under the Trump holdover. Congress delayed confirming Biden’s new guy. Make of that what you will, but also consider Joel Greenberg was an unreliable witness for DoJ. 3/

Chief among them, if people learn that what they tell DoJ will be handed over to Congress which leaks like a sieve, folks will be unlikely to cooperate with the DoJ going forward. It would have a chilling effect on the investigative process. 2/
