Morning report: Frost again, but the crocuses are emerging. Blue jays are ravaging the bird feeder. A mated pair of cardinals have staked out the pea trellis. The trunks of trees in woods are bare where hungry deer have stripped them. The first signs of trillium and glory of the snow have arrived.

Bosco is ready for another snow storm
I do this every year — it’s a workbook that I designed for myself, then my writing group, and now is something that has taken on a life of its own. It’s always fun when someone texts me or messages me asking when it’s coming back, because it very much was a little personal project.

The Folly Cove Designers were a collective of printmakers, mostly women, led by illustrator/teacher Virginia Lee Burton Demetrios. Local to Cape Ann, MA (my home!), they worked mostly on fabric, by hand on a seasonal schedule at home, achieving national success while operating from the 1930-60s.

Currently obsessing over UK artisan and passementerie artist Elizabeth Ashdown, who makes these trims by hand on a special loom. You can follow her on IG at @ ashdowntextiles, where she had beautiful videos of her work.
