Ocean science, cycling infrastructure, affordable public transport.
"But what about saving fuel?" people will cry from their 3 tonne car

Christ, that is one awful bike lane! If it can even be called that

Brilliant! What sort of imaging instruments are they?

PS- it seems I misread your post about posting links to X, rather than being on X. But, the latter point has still been discussed, I think
March 7, 2025 at 5:38 PM
as however righteous our cause may be (and however right we are!), that will rarely be enough if we make people defensive right away.
March 7, 2025 at 5:36 PM
I think the best approach is what you were doing in your post about "telling stories", asking people to provide examples of cargo bike use. This gives people agency.
I love this post and I frequently come back to it to share examples with my friends.
Personally, I think we need more of that

Lastly, I've been reading quite a bit of Kris de Meyer's and others' work recently about communicating on polarising issues and 6 aspects of morality. I think ultimately if we're to convince anyone, supplying facts and telling them they're rubbish for not leaving X is unlikely 2 be most effective.
March 7, 2025 at 5:36 PM
we have no hope of persuading them if we all leave.

You might say "but the people on there are never going to be convinced because all the righteous people have already left" or "bots just counteract us anyway" but creating two opposing echo chambers is only going to lead to further polarisation.
March 7, 2025 at 5:36 PM
I have left X, but I'm not sure I agree with posts like this and sometimes I think about rejoining for the reasons below.

Essentially, I worry that for advocacy purposes, on here we're largely preaching to the choir, whereas the real people (amongst the bots) on X are not seeing our messaging and

In Czechia atm- admittedly not green energy powerhouses but terrific public transport and rural bike infrastructure. Spending time in Europe is so uplifting to see how life can be when these things are done well.
Now for the sleeper train en route home 😁

Having looked at quite a few papers now, it seems the economic impact on retailers is somewhat up for debate- depending on methodology used, controls, etc.

What's certainly not up for debate are the environmental and health benefits to such policies. 💪🌍

This is great news + we need more studies like this.

NB worth noting though that in this case, there is a study showing opposite (forewarned = forearmed) academic.oup.com/jeea/article...

IMO, latter study somewhat cherry-picks data+ makes q-able assumptions. But I need to read methodology 4 longer

White people from war-torn countries are fine, but god forbid anyone with brown skin gets in.

What the f*ck is wrong with Labour. You were meant to be better, more compassionate than the Tories, not acting straight out of the Farage playbook

Such a simple childlike joy, yet so beautiful.
It can be depressing and hopeless when the noisy minority still proclaim LTNs are unpopular. So reassuring to remind ourselves that it's utter rubbish, and change is happening.
Thanks for sharing, both :)

regardless of method, we can have lynx successfully reintroduced. Turning my attention to try and communicate with people with whom I disagree about the ends as well as the means.
All the best.

No, I haven't.

Guerilla rewilding undermines evidence-based conservation

Not consulting people typically leads to people feeling ignored/marginalised, leads to further polarisation and pushback against the initiatives, and ultimately worse wildlife outcomes (survival %, pop growth, etc).
February 8, 2025 at 3:21 PM
And, for what it is worth, there is ample evidence in cognitive science/psychology and in conservation practice to suggest that the freestyling approach that doesn't consult stakeholders will be less successful in the long-term.
February 8, 2025 at 3:21 PM
is unlikely to be beneficial.
February 8, 2025 at 3:19 PM
are hamstrung by politicians, as you show.

I can appreciate that whether or not you believe "risks of unregulated rewilding are overstated" is a matter of debate; certainly there are conservationists who would fall on both sides of this.

But, sowing division and distrust in conservationists
February 8, 2025 at 3:19 PM
I'm not a professional conservationist, but I was someone who debated with you on this previously.
I still can't understand the scapegoating of conservationists here. Conservationists and ecologists are typically broadly in favour of (legal) reintroductions, and thus seek the same thing as you, but

Why are we sharing fake news? Musk is doing and saying so much crazy shit, there's literally no need to be sharing disinformation. We get on their case for spreading misinformation, and should absolutely not be sharing it ourselves. Fact checking is not difficult, nor is this a very convincing fake
February 4, 2025 at 7:34 AM
Of course. Have you shared outside of our left-wing haven, and are you fine with it being shared?
