If it was an SEC football scenario, I could see 1) the scam guys have a personal pride/ego and see an opportunity, 2) they hear from Uncle Dennis the need to do this, 3) they feel like they can "own" part of the bragging rights if the Clips win, and 4) they know they can't tell Ballmer. Plausible

It makes sense that Ballmer has every incentive to not know. But the scammer seem like they have so much incentive to at least let him and/or the Clips know. It's super hard to square total silence.

At *best*, this is a deep failure of the NBA to anticipate a cap circumvention method.
If Ballmer and/or Clips have no responsibility to make sure key partners are not doing this, then even if it's legal it's still sketchy.
