More magical girl monster practice. I really like that one sweets witch from Madoka so I figured I'd start with a cake theme and go from there. I'm still not sure what my style of monster design is but I find that I really like oversized stuff, with the huge cake and the huge utensils.

Experimenting with some actual magical girl monsters now, sticking to the flower theme. Since it's meant to be Madoka-like I've gone for a large witch-like monster and a bunch of smaller flower familiars.
I'm not used to designing monsters but they should be a little unsettling, I think.

Another shot of the parking garage setting. I like abandoned buildings as set pieces for hidden magical girl shows cuz it's a good place to have magical stuff happen without civilians. Since the concept is Madoka esq this would be a common setting where witch portals show up.

I like the idea of a little staircase going up to her upstairs apartment but I dunno if it makes sense. Its also a pain to draw

Next on the learning plan is some basic environments in perspective. This is also a chance to flesh out some locations that the story would take place in. Claudia runs a little clothing boutique downtown and she lives in the 2nd floor. This would be the main hangout spot for our protagonists

Some manga practice with composing short full page action sequences. Trying to focus on movement, debris, and sound effects, I'm still not used to working with those things. I like to imagine Claudia to be the kind of character who does devastating stunts with heels.

Took some time to rework my Claudia design. I felt that her shawl wasn't reading cleanly in action so I swapped it out with a boa that would flow more loosely. The new look is somewhere between Ragyo Kiryuin and Cardcaptors Clear Card and honestly that's the vibe I want for her~

Been a bit unproductive lately but i've practicing some action fundamentals, like fists being swung and stuff being broken. I need to practice drawing a lot more broken stuff if I wanna draw all the cool fights I imagine in my head.

I'm finally starting to get into some more substantial practice now, here's some attempts at drawing action manga style running. My old Splatoon comics were dialogue heavy so I never practiced this stuff. Again, trying to express different OC personalities in their movements where possible.

Now that I've got a couple of OC designs to work with I'm gonna do some art practice with them. I still have a lot of problems with foreshortening so I wanted to practiced some poses in perspective. I also wanna flesh out the general vibes of my OC's while I practice.

Made some more designs for my magical girl concept. Half the fun of magical girls is that you have to come up with their untransformed looks, too.
Anna's not even magic but working adults have their own kind of transformation if you think about it

Here's the third member of the protagonist trio for my magical girl concept. She's a normal non magical reporter but a huge magical girl nerd. I've always liked shonen series with a normie ass POV character in the main cast, like Komatsu from Toriko and Morty from Shaman King

Here's a second OC from my magical girl concept. She's younger and less experienced but makes up for it with spunk and big-ass punchy fists. I gotta think more about the gauntlet design cuz they're kinda cartoony, but honestly there's kind of a charm to how goofy they look.

So I've been on a journey of sorts to learn manga art lately and I've decided to revive an old magical girl concept I had back in my Madoka phase, for practice. I'm gonna start with some character designs and work my way up from there, but I wanna start posting again to motivate myself.

I've been quiet for a while but I've hard at work on on that Don Quixote manga I mentioned, for the Kadokawa contest.
I'm starting to get a good feel for the manga process and I'm 6 pages in. I don't wanna show off too much at this point but I'm starting to enjoy these new boys

Working on my manga concept again. The last character design is an alternate take on Sancho Panza, Don Quixote's companion. I really like the original Sancho for being just some guy so I wanna try an elseworlds interpretation where Sancho is some other guy. Hijinks ensue~

More tests, this time it's Don Quixote's horse, Rocinante. I don't particularly know what I'm doing with drawing horses so I had to learn on the fly, lol. He's just a normal horse but I tried to give him a little personality.

I'm making plans for that Kadokawa wordless manga contest and one of the categories is about Don Quixote, so I'm testing out some character designs. I'll be sharing more of my WIP's as I work, it's gonna take a while
