Yes! In the 1940 census my grandfather (his name was Donald Munroe Wilkinson) was listed as Donald Munroe, and all his family members are listed under the surname Munroe. It was obviously an error by the census taker, but it affected the transcriptions, and the indexes. I complained for years.

Of course, without permits and chemical studies all that historical lead paint, asbestos, and other toxic substances are now just dust floating around Washington DC to land willy nilly... not to say that history, art, design, architecture, due process, and common sense are all dust now, too.
