PhD in Genetics from Kansas State University. Fungi and other good stuff. Recent grad - looking for work!
Dear search engine: "Replicate" and "duplicate" do not mean the same things. 😪

Please share any genetics- or molecular biology-related jobs you may run across. Entry-level PhD jobs seem rare these days. I'm willing to do BS/MS-level jobs if they pay a living wage, but many have rejected me for being overqualified. Remember, grads get no unemployment & have zero income. Thanks!

I just saw the price tag for my graduation regalia! Tough for someone unemployed. The order due date is today, which I'd totally forgotten about. Not a single reminder was sent, but thankfully my advisor mentioned it.

I can't believe I get to wear the funny little hat! 💜

I have just learned that LinkedIn Premium, which you need to use their job search functions at all well, is $70/month. That is insane. And half the "jobs" they serve are "AI trainer" scams. There has to be a better site out there. Any advice?

Anyone know anything about Baylor Genetics? Are they are legitimate company? On one hand, they seem legit, but on the other hand, they have a lot of job listings with different job titles and salaries, but identical job descriptions. That seems odd to me.

Biotech and pharmaceutical companies are leaving the US and funding for academic and government research is dead. Those things will not magically reverse themselves. I literally graduated into an environment where I will be unable to ever support myself. Trying to stay positive.

Anyone have job-hunting advice? LinkedIn is hard to use, overrun with AI slop, and serves the same jobs day after day. Indeed is the same. I try to visit individual company/university websites.

No one wants entry-level PhDs and there are precious few postdocs. I've never had to compete with 100s.
