King Stephen died on 25th October 1154 at Dover. He was buried in the choir at Faversham Abbey alongside Queen Matilda and their son, Eustace. The exact location of his remains is unknown but after the dissolution of the Abbey he may have been reburied in the church of St Mary of Charity, Faversham.

The hops are up for the #Faversham Hop Festival.

Archeaeobotanical evidence of hops was found in the Graveney Boat, a sea going cargo boat dated c AD 900, uncovered in the estuary mud not far from Faversham in 1970.

The Faversham Fleur de Lis Museum garden is open today. At first sight it might not be the most picturesque of all the gardens open today but it’s the only one with a reconstructed shop front and a plant scheme from the 1770s.

Had a trip out to Folkestone this afternoon and Antony Gormley’s cast iron statue “Another Time XVIII 2013” on one of the old loading docks under the Harbour Arm was looking out onto a very calm sea.

Spent some time this morning in the tranquility of Greyfriars Canterbury. The above ground remains of the friary is this beautiful 13th century building constructed over a branch of the Stour.

The Tree of Life stained glass window in St Peter’s church, Oare, Kent. The window is dedicated to Allen Beckett, a civil engineer whose design for the 'Whale' floating roadway was crucial to the success of the Mulberry harbour that was used in the Normandy Landings. #StainedGlassSunday

My thanks and gratitude are beyond words for the care, skill and dedication of the #NHS staff of the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford who made it possible for me to walk out of the doors into glorious spring sunshine this afternoon- an event that was far from certain on Friday morning.

A sunny morning spent having a wander around Faversham market. Good to have a laugh with Andy Capon in the week he’s been accused of being a “leftie trouble maker” for his satirical take on local life - I can’t wait for the next edition of The Spire.
