This reminds me of the colleague in the English dept who said “this is why we elect poets not bloggers”

I’m less sure about this one “What presidents can be experts in is politics.” Why is this exactly? Because of a lot of practice? Because the scope of politics is smaller? Because if they didn’t they wouldn’t be president?

I think I agree with this “At best, in their strongest policy areas, they might achieve something like second-tier expertise” — the vast array of policy issues seems to explain this
