This is very disappointing to see from you. Wanting to protect oneself and others against any virus, especially one that causes widespread organ damage, is not based in fear. A "rational assessment" grounded in research of COVID makes it incredibly clear this is not something anyone should catch.

This reminds me of a post I saw once about how space shuttle sizes were determined by the size of a horse's ass from thousands of years ago

"And the motto of the story is Specifications and bureaucracies live forever."

"During covid" + past tense is different from "the worst of covid" + past tense. Please listen to immunocompromised and disabled people. I highly recommend the podcast Death Panel - they analyze the "sociological production of the end of the pandemic" and explain why this is harmful language.

There is a ridiculous amount of USC merch that just says 'go cocks!' or 'cocks'

I didn't watch enough to see this character, but the intro to Twilight Out of Focus has a character who masks in all the shots they appear in. Not sure what kind of TV you like but thought I'd share the one example I found. I wish there were more though!!

Have you ever read This Changes Everything by Naomi Klein? I just finished the chapter on geoengineering & saw many parallels between the rhetoric used to advance that + more recent pro-LLM rhetoric. That chapter plus a couple others are in a section aptly named "Magical Thinking." Would recommend!

I totally agree - I'm trying to learn web design/programming & all I see is "use AI" or something like roadmap.sh where it's just a checklist of terms & tools. Do you have any other reading recs or links/sites you'd recommend that are more grounded in the craft/intellectual tradition of programming?
