I agree that D&D's alignments is a terrible morality system, but it is a great tool for giving new players an abstract starting point for character rping. It's a slight change in perspective, but it's def important DMs indicate that alignment isn't prescriptive.

That being said, I've started engineering a private AI setup that runs exclusively off of my personal computer to better circumvent the ethical and privacy implications that come with mainstream models. I'm really excited for the possibilities in store, but it's a shame it's like this at all

Not only that, but interacting with mainstream AI platforms right now is a major privacy risk. In general, they tend to use your interactions as training data, and it's possible for other users to prompt that data from the AI. This is ofc not to mention the environmental effects from the GPU farms

Gen AI has incredible implications for the way humans interact with computers, and it can even be an incredible disability aid. For example, with agentic capabilities, it could schedule appointments for people with phone anxiety. It's just such a shame that it's been positioned for capitalist greed
