BONUS - DARLINGTONIA: #WorldCarnivorousPlantsDay wouldn't be complete without bringing attention to the Cobra Lily. While these plants are infamous for their trickiness when growing, darlingtonia are definitely worth the effort! They've gotten their namesake from the snake like appearances!

BLADDERWORTS: While these may just appear as small leaves or grass, there is actually A LOT more to these carnivorous plants... underground! These carnivorous plants trap microorganisms in the soil with their roots! Eventually, these plants will bloom and show off their beautiful little flowers!
May 8, 2025 at 1:15 AM
BUTTERWORTS: These plants have very sticky leaves that act as glue traps in order to catch any insect that may walk on it. While most are usually no bigger an inch, they do have a unique variety of colors! From green to pink to even dark purple!
May 8, 2025 at 1:15 AM
TROPICAL PITCHER PLANT: Perhaps the 2nd most common carnivorous plant, the tropical pitcher is one of the most unique-looking plants. Like sarracenias, these plants grow pitchers to trap insects and digest them once they fall in!
May 8, 2025 at 1:15 AM
AMERICAN PITCHER PLANT: These plants grow tall (some up to 3 feet!) leaves to trap prey inside. They secrete nectar on their lids and throats for insects to eat and drunkenly fall inside! While most other carnivorous plants eat small insects, sarracenia can eat larger insects such as wasps!
May 8, 2025 at 1:15 AM
SUNDEWS: These plants create a sticky dew from their leaves to trap insects. Over time, some of these species will wrap around the bug to digest it, leaving nothing but an exo-skeleton behind. Sundews come in all sorts of shapes and sizes that make each of them highly unique!
May 8, 2025 at 1:15 AM
VENUS FLYTRAPS: The icon of the carnivorous plant world. Flytraps are one of the few carnivorous plants that quickly "snap" to trap their prey in their mouths. Despite their unique ability, feeding on insects isn't a necessity for these plants to thrive, but still cool to see nonetheless!

The first Wednesday of May is World Carnivorous Plants Day! A day made to help raise awareness and celebrate these amazing plants! Here's a quick look at some of these wonders of nature: THREAD
