On HTBS (2 of 2): Edward H. Jones looks into the life of Jimmy Hamill after his rowing career was over. Hamill coached Yale freshman’s crew in 1873 and had an unusual fitness routine. Hamill had “running scrub races with every passing horse” – Horseplay!

On HTBS: Bill Miller writes about the Hillsdale RC Four, the Hillsdales, of Michigan, who out of nowhere became the 1879 National Amateur Champions. They continued their success the following years. However, they were ignored by the ARA when they went to England.

On HTBS: Anyone associated with rowing or boating in West London and the wider watermen’s community will be saddened to hear of the death, aged 83, of Chas Newens, ‘Chas the boat’. For many years Newens drove the umpire launch at the Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race.

On HTBS: A new rowing biography has seen the light of day: Edward J. Woodhouse’s 362-page "Joe Burk: An American Ideal". The book was supposed to come out in September, but the biography is already available on Amazon in the U.S. and the UK.
