I got into a reading block after having such a rich September... and I usually binge on a few Romances to get me out of that slump. Romances are also a major source of comfort during an ADHD burnout.

I think these did it for me. #BookSky

"That's what I learned from them - it's not safe to be different."....“I pushed you to change because I wanted you to be safe. Do you understand?”

As a South Asian ADHDer, this book hit me hard.

My real, abject, fear: that no incompetence was involved

The way this hit too close phew!

What got me was what most reviews complained about - the heroine's piling lies in the workplace.

Lies born from experiencing prejudice, anxiety, chronic people pleasing, imposter syndrome, fear, & the baggage of our past.

Trust me, that was too real #BookSky

The most common criticism for this series I've seen is the "absurd" premise - "Oh no one could POSSIBLY treat teenagers like this"

And I bet the critics just don't know how teens are treated in foster care systems, "behavioral modification" programs, & juvenile detention centers - *today*

Few fascinating facts from this gem:

Maternal mortality was rough, *but* it was better under the care of midwives than male physicians of the time

Comfort was a higher priority for midwives during illness before treatment. Ironic given pain management access today. #ReproSky #BookSky

Books are rarely perfect. But a very imperfect book can still leave you with the most perfect feelings...

And the cultural references & places feel so lived in 🤌 Still feeling the feels hours after finishing this one

Before Pride month ended, I got to finish "I will Greet the Sun Again" by Khashayar J Khabushani - the fact he's an Iranian author, was divine coincidence

Among audiobooks... coming of age books have felt the most comforting to me, like a weighted blanket for the ears. Like this one.

Just finished listening to the Parable of the Talents...

It may be the very first book in my life that left me feeling pure rage after.

Chiefly because I had to listen to the heroine's family (including her child) punish her for her purpose till the very end...

The ridiculous misinformation rampant today started somewhere...

Any imho, that somewhere was sensationalism.

No, it's not enough to state "new guidelines may be needed". We have to blare the alarms that everyone is going to die from cancer

I couldn't believe this was a debut novel! @jtewwrites.bsky.social you've one new fan here who is looking forward to your next book! I sure hope this one finds a ton more readers though

The Ministry of the Future begins on a rather stark & depressing note.

But what I thought more depressing were the less than stellar reviews it had on GoodReads because it had "too much scientific detail on #ClimateChange for a fiction"

It's a real shame I didn't know about Agatha Christie's Miss Marple series until now.

Man, I laughed so much. The narrator is the very talented Richard E Grant, and he's a huge reason why.

Amidst all the corporate push to make AI narration the inevitable future, this was sobering too. #BookSky

My 17th read this year...

Took my time to soak this lovely book in, & all I have to say about it is - with all the *thousands* of literature we already have, on the bloody pointlessness & wreckage of wars in all history, it hurts to witness leaders still be so trigger happy for it today

Do you think we'll ever see a world where, in order to ban abortions 100%, it'll allow the death (excuse me, Unwinding) of teens instead - giving a pool of accessible organs too?

I thought the premise was too nonsensical, but knowing the state of foster care systems, I wonder is all.

"I'm getting too old for this shit"

"There is no age," Dinadan said, "for which this shit is appropriate"

And that, my friends, is the most apt quote for this year of my Goddess 2025, which I solemnly share with y'all, from "The Bright Sword"
