I know optimism and a drive to keep going can be difficult things to come by these days. But here's my secret. Spite. It's not so much that I really enjoy living in the world as it is now, but more that I know what kind of world I could be living in, and I refuse to die in a world like this.

Absolutely TINY little guy rescued from a cat. Good news is he doesn't appear to have been hurt. Shortly after the rescue he hopped off into the brush, presumably to find his way back home. Godspeed little bun, find your way safely. Thanks to @awkwardalicia27.bsky.social for taking the picture!

It's occurred to me that the struggle between authoritarianism and democracy is at a tipping point, and which direction we tip will depend on which is stronger, the individual fear of the power held by authority, or the collective willpower to overcome that fear.

As someone who got his pilot's license with the intention of trying to make a career of it, the new administrations gutting of the FAA, and the recent accidents that have resulted from that decision have made this a very uncertain time for at least the short term future of aviation and its safety.

The nuttiest thing about this week to me is watching people I know who aren't worried about Trump and haven't been since before the election, because they don't think the mass deportations, tarrifs, even Project 2025, are real, even while it's happening right in front of them.

Almost a two and a half years since my first cross country solo flight came and went. So many experiences have come and gone since then, but it's a flight I'll certainly never forget!
