It's mostly on LEGO's part for letting the distribution out that easily. Even if some people who first found the leaks kept secret its impossible to let that stuff stay. People are also just impatient. Luckily a few episodes are still left.

For as satisfying it would be to see Jay back to his normal self, I can't deny this would be a really cool turning point. Instead of having his memory back, have him become a more Ronin-esqur character but with the same Jay quirks (which we are already kind of seeing)

They had a lot of potential, though I think the main issue was indeed their buildup. If we didn't spend so much time getting them into the world it wouldn't have felt so pointless? Like, I can't believe I am saying this but the Crystal Council might have been a better showing of a villain team.
