IMO the root cause is the 1997 amendments: freezing Article 57 and lowering the threshold to override executive reconsideration/veto from 2/3 to 1/2—effectively gutting it. Fortunate that Article 37 countersignature was left intact.

Some corners of the DPP base is pushing for Taiwan to align with the MAGA brand. I think this was started by that Polish guy, and spread amongst the Chinese speaking community on Threads and Facebook. Polish guy and "Daniel Craig" are two of the megaphones

I know the law says employers may not pay, but in reality, most do, and pay extra if needing workers to show up.
Taiwan netizens wouldn't be celebrating typhoon days off like they do if their salaries are getting deducted.

But most employers pay their workers though, even when taking typhoon days off. And they pay extra if requesting workers to show up. I actually don't know anyone who has salary deducted from taking a typhoon day. And it's not a holiday. Officially called 天然災害停止上班上課, not 颱風假
