I guess it's hard to photograph someone at the controls of a cocktail cabinet.

To unforgivably confuse metaphors: Descartes may have been wrong about the pineal gland being the point of contact with the soul, but it is associated/developed with the "third eye" in some vertebrates: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parieta...

I'm curious if anyone knows why the name was changed; I've seen insinuations of a trademark conflict. It's funny that these earliest 1995 discs didn't even have the "CDPLUS" directory, it might have been standardized only after the branding had changed to "Extra".

This particular disc had several versions, mostly bundled with new PCs, each OEM got unique branding and track lists. I've seen CD Extra versions for IBM, Packard Bell, and Toshiba. This first one might be for Compaq, that name appears in the data.

I find this especially with any kind of auto complete. Consistency is a lot more important to a regular user than constantly improving on some benchmark.

There's probably some real issues they're fixing, but without knowing enough about uses that break. People adapt to awkwardness in interfaces, if you smooth the cracks people were using to climb it, they'll stand cursing at the bottom of the ladder you've built that no longer reaches their goal.

With that many letters you could make anagrams for many contradictory messages, too.

There's only one 16-color CLUT. There is supposedly a command (28) to set transparency, which would allow the graphics to overlay video, but this doc doesn't cover it and I don't know how widely used it is. bhj's cdgraphics implements it quite differently than the spec.

I had supposed Line Graphics might be the original design, meant for small special purpose displays, or simplified for device front panels (like late CD-Text displays), but it seems it was anticipating future use that never materialized.

CD+G is technically a mode called TV Graphics (mode 9), there's also the simpler Line Graphics (mode 8). Line mode has a smaller display, with no palette changes and two colors per block (when not fully monochrome). Here's my attempt to decode the line mode tests on CD-T03: youtu.be/2LB3wzuryyA
