Really love this kind of reality-check meta-research 👉“The struggle to make transparency mainstream: initial evidence for a slow uptake of open science practices in PhD theses”

Great to see our content analysis of 27 Chinese youth depression scales finally out!

Following @eikofried.bsky.social excellent work on depression scales, we included 27 scales and quantified the heterogeneity by analyzing data from 12,000 youth who completed 4 of them.

Comments are welcome!

as a big fun of multiverse, I am really happy to see a nice tutorial was just out: psycnet.apa.org/record/2026-...

Congrats to @epronizius.bsky.social, @slewis5920.bsky.social @aggieerin.bsky.social & @psysciacc.bsky.social (sorry i did not follow all of the authors here) #Metascience #OpenScience

Was a bit anxious sharing our Stage 1 RR at @pci-regreports.bsky.social (url: osf.io/vwmzh) since we only had preliminary results, but thankfully no one left during my talk.

Really enjoyed chatting w/ other speakers & was excited to meet @juliankosciessa.bsky.social, whose data we used.

Enjoyed a nice walk in the woods in Dali, Yunan, but never dare to pick the mushrooms along the way.

where we analyzed the variability in experimental design in self-referential encoding task in fMRI studies and we also found huge variability across 66 fMRI studies that used "self-referential encoding task." we describe the results in a data paper in Chinese: doi.org/10.11922/11-...

A super interesting meta-research on flexibility of exp design of reversal learning paradigm.

"methodological standards diverge dramatically across taxa... "The number of reversal phases differed more than threefold among groups."

reminds me a similar work in my group ->

We then coded how each indicator was created (still ongoing!).

For the 227 articles measuring parental education, we've identified 150 distinct "pipelines" so far. 👇

⚠️ WARNING: figure is ugly & results are VERY preliminary and subject to revision in our later analysis! ⚠️

The most frequent indicators were parental education, followed by family income.

Crucially, many articles explicitly excluded participants' own education or even parental education from their SES measure.
June 21, 2025 at 3:17 PM
Among the 418 articles where we identified SES info:

Most measured multiple indicators of SES & Two indicators was the most common. Some reported up to 10.

Some of you asked about this project. It is not dead! It is just in a "meta-researcher' block"

We're currently in the hardest phase: figuring out exactly how socio-economic status (SES) scores were constructed.

Just sharing some preliminary & ugly figures to show we're actively working on it 👇

A long while ago, w/ @yuqingc.bsky.social @psforscher.bsky.social @eikofried.bsky.social I registered a meta-research to study how socio-economic status (SES) was measured in cognitive neuroscience (osf.io/hwtxq) & we posted some very interesting (or alarming?) figure on X.

⚠️ Crucial warning: Current "best practices" often ignore hidden costs (time, $) for developing regions.

📣 We call for MORE Global South voices to co-create inclusive standards!

Proactive engagement shapes FAIRER #OpenScience for all 🌍.

🔍 Key insight? Barriers are real (resources, access, incentives) – but actionable solutions exist!

We propose a gradual engagement ladder 📈: Start small → build/lead communities.

💡 Remember: You can engage in community at any time! *(2/4)

Interesting results, thanks for sharing!

Similar to our recent work on the reliability of another cognitive task -- matching task for self-prioritization effect, where we also tried both summary statistics and DDM:
