H.C. Andersen made over 30 trips abroad in the period 1831 – 1873. His first trip was to Germany in 1831 and the last was to Germany and Switzerland in 1873. H.C. Andersen wrote in his autobiography “My Life's Adventure” “To travel is to live” and from the song “It is Life to Travel!”

On July 8, 1819, H.C. Andersen was confirmed in Odense Cathedral by the provost, who otherwise only confirmed the children of noble citizens and not those of the poor. The provost even wrote in the confirmation protocol that H.C. Andersen had good abilities and good religious knowledge.

H.C. Andersen was a versatile artist, and among other things produced this paper clip in May 1864. It was donated to a bazaar held in the Casino's small hall in Copenhagen for the benefit of the victims and Danish prisoners of war in Germany in connection with the war in 1864.
