Finally, an updated version of old favourite - Billionaire Mountain, where we show how billionaire wealth has continued to climb at a steep trajectory.

If you are feeling nauseous, blame the altitude.

This graph demonstrates how inequality rose sharply during the formal historic period of colonialism and has remained high ever since.

#TakersNotMakers explores how unequal and exploitative systems created in this era have baked inequality into the global economy.

World of Two Halves: While the proportion of humanity living in poverty has fallen, the number of people still living on less that US$6.85 STILL stands at circa 3.6bn - a whopping 44% of us.

Meanwhile, the richest 1% own almost an identical proportion - 45% - of all wealth.

If you thought last year's figures were horrifying - how about the fact that billionaire wealth rose THREE TIMES faster in 2024 than 2023?

Meanwhile, the number of people living in poverty has barely changed since 1990.

We are going in the wrong direction.

In 2023, more new billionaires were created through inheritance than entrepreneurialism for the first time. In fact, 35% of billionaire wealth is inherited, whilst another 25% comes from cronyism, corruption or monopoly power. #TakersNotMakers 5/

At the same time, the number of people living in poverty has remained virtually unchanged since 1990. #TakersNotMakers 2/

One week from today Oxfam will be posting our annual inequality report to coincide with the #WorldEconomicForum in #Davos. It is a fantastic paper written by some of the brightest and most passionate people I've ever had the fortune to work with. #Inequality

We saw these in Canada last autumn/fall. Think the white is Lion's Mane - unsure about the rest. This is my favourite account.

“The terrible verdict from the Baku climate talks shows that rich countries view the Global South as ultimately expendable, like pawns on a chessboard.” Nafkote Dabi, Climate Change Policy Lead, Oxfam International.

Having spent the last 15 months in Canada, the fact that this light smattering shut 200 schools across the UK yesterday is very funny...
