A real business with a slightly haunted, somewhat fictional archive, a deep commitment to documentation and storytelling. The herbs are real, the archive is active, the observations file monthly.

Every month, two plants are chosen:

One by Nana Root, who insists the plants decide and likes to call them "Monthly Marvels."

The other is a selection by E.H. Bellgrave submitted as a "Monthly Botanical Observation." Do not touch

One to comfort. One to caution.
Choose wisely.

"Poison is not malice. It is chemistry with consequences."

Some plants are beautiful. Some are useful. Some are neither. Bellgrave’s section of the archive is not open to the public without supervision.

We don't want to file another disappearance. Sorry, Phillip.

E.H. Bellgrave, Archivist Emeritus (self-appointed) has never been fired, but only because they were never formally hired.

Bellgrave files plants, is deeply offended by folk remedies, emotionally compromised, and mutters constantly. Can often be found glaring at the petunias.

The story lives on Substack, but not all entries belong in the narrative. If you're looking for context —or simply wondering who these people are — the blog is now live.
Nana Roots welcomes, Bellgrave objects.

The Emporium has stirred. Not the shop, the story.
No grand spell. Just a creak, a breath, and the dust remembering how to dance.
An introduction has been filed.

Say Hello to Nana Root.

"Come on in, Little Sprout, no need to stand by the door waiting for an invitation. You wouldn't be here if the place hadn't called."

She is the caretaker, not the owner. She tends to things, she talks to tinctures and plants, she brews, she remembers.

Welcome to Hattie B's Herbal Emporium– a real business, an active archive, and a space where story and plant matter meet. We're still unpacking.

Expect future mentions of:

• Monthly Marvels
• Dangerous Plants
• Strange findings in the cellar
• Possibly Bellgrave, with protest
