Thoughts and stuff
Well, it was a slim majority of voters, but only something like 63% of the population voted. On the other hand it was apparently the second highest vote total in US history (behind 2020)...

Hard to say how non-voters would lean, but there is no overwhelming mandate behind the radical destruction

I should just mention I have lost friends calling out lazy anti Semitic tropes, I refer specifically to publicly known lobby groups, Israeli intelligence operations, objective analysis of reporting trends, and so on

It's hard to discuss with character limits, but populist political expediency, global lobbying and propaganda, ingrained ethnonationalist attitudes and imperialist governance are well documented and can be linked to Israeli government action, and a lack of intervention by other states.

I can concede the legal point, and frankly, I think debating definitions can become a distraction from the material reality of what's happening. it is not propaganda or manipulation people are persuaded by, but the evidence of systemic killing, displacement and deprivation.

I support strictly upholding legal rigor, but this is as much a political and moral issue as it is a legal one. In hindsight, I think this will be seen as a damning moment, where moral relativism and rhetoric eclipsed international law, moral principles or previous precedents for intervention

I agree genocide is very difficult to prove legally, but I'm interested in how Israel's words and actions strike your reason and intuition? It seems extremely evident there is a level of orchestrated destruction of Palestinians lives, far beyond matters of self defense or war with Hamas

Ministers representing the government have made public and explicit genocidal statements, as have hundreds of other government, military and civilian figures. Intent is perhaps the easiest aspect to prove here, if not legally then by any reasonable judgement

The dismantling, destruction and withholding of aid in particular is almost impossible to explain in terms other than intentional destruction of a population

There's mountains of evidence of what's going on now, not just from Al Jazeera. There's an expert consensus this is a genocide, even Israeli organisations are calling it that now. Netanyahu is officially a war criminal awaiting arrest, and Israeli ministers make openly genocidal statements

None, but there are $billions of reasons the public *won't* see it

I think about the fact the British chose not to try and assassinate Hitler. "Never interrupt your enemy when he's making a mistake"

Also on a *totally unrelated note* people need to remember Vance is VP and more of an ideologue

This will be his "new and improved" version after he got fed up of Grok being corrupted by the far left and using factual citations...

Trump and Netanyahu are so comprehensively terrible, they have achieved the impossible: making their intelligence agencies appear like beacons of truth, principle, and wisdom by contrast!
July 4, 2025 at 2:39 PM
The Iranian government may be bad guys but they aren't "the" bad guys in this instance.

Netanyahu is far closer to Putin in their current roles in the world, including their excuses for aggression. And Trump has been no friend to Ukraine, or peace and democracy in general

I'll bite:
You realise when you repeat these hyperbolic talking points without explaining them, they just look racist right? Can you point to anything he's done that would justify you thinking this, or am I safe in assuming it's just because he's Muslim?

I didn't remember that at all so I rewatched it, and nope, Biden had almost nothing to do with that rant.
I think you'd only think that if you think America was working fine before Trump, and that Biden was perfect and immune from the corrupt system that all presidents have to compromise with

I don't disagree about the danger. The diagnosing has a place, but I'll grant you there is a disturbing lack of urgency in news media and political institutions themselves. Congress I'm looking at you

People reasoning through ideas and spelling out the "obvious" are often more useful to listen to than people who lean on shared "known knowns" and intellectual shorthand.

How many people actually understand the social and institutional mechanisms which underpin the systems they're for or against?

China very quickly moved in to pick up development contracts in Nepal, after USAID withdrew from the world. China may be maneuvering into a stronger position to dictate international naming conventions than the US is, eg. with "Gulf of America"

To clarify, it would be their relative power and voice in society as authorities in their field which might make them a perceived threat and target, individually or collectively. And if this is their field of expertise, I'm sure this is on their minds
May 15, 2025 at 12:29 AM
Intellectuals and academics are some of the first targets for a new fascist regime consolidating its power. It would differ from the systemic oppression of poor and marginalised groups who have little power or voice, it's a potential, more targeted threat on their individual freedom and lives

Makes sense, but AAA games are in a death spiral of rising development costs, pricing out evermore of their audience. I'd predict growth of the indie market while big studios shift to games-as-service, monetising smaller, dedicated audiences. The big-budget single player game may be going extinct

To clarify, it was a staple right win talking point, even as they made things less efficient, more wasteful, and more cruel and neglectful of the vulnerable
March 8, 2025 at 11:04 PM
Yeah, it's even immune to the economic arguments of efficiency and more value for money which was a staple of the right for decades
