1. TICKET TO RIDE: EUROPE

The true gateway game, Ticket to Ride is a perfect series and Europe with its added tunnels and ferries is the quintessential one. Lay down track and complete destinations, this hame shows people just how good modern board games can be. I will love this game forever.

2. LOVE LETTER

Draw a card, play a card’s action and be the last one standing. This game is devilishly simple but absolutely brutal. Protect yourself with the handmaid, force a discard with the prince or make a random guess to wipe people out with the guard. This strategic party game is a hit.

3. DISNEY VILLAINOUS

Play as Disney’s villains and be the first to achieve their evil objective. This game’s unique mechanics for each villain makes it feel as though you really are them. This game is absolutely genius. Don’t be fooled by the Disney theming, this game is challenging and brilliant.

4. BOHNANZA

This bean trading game is truly special. Plant beans in your field, harvest them at the optimal amount and trade unwanted beans to keep your crop strong. The conveyor belt card mechanic is genius and adds so much to the strategy. It may look goofy, but this game is one of the best.

5. PREY ANOTHER DAY

Five animals in the food chain, try to survive the night by playing cards and making guesses to eliminate others. This strategic game is great for parties, with gorgeous artwork and nail-biting moments. A recent purchase, this game has become one of my most loved at game nights.

6. SNAKESSS

I’m not into bluffing games and Big Potato tend to miss the mark for me, but Snakesss is near perfect. Half are humans, half are snakes, snakes need to convince humans to pick the wrong answer. It’s devilishly simple and yet gripping. The Mongoose of Truth only adds to the strategy.

7. CAMEL UP (2ND EDITION)

For theming, you cannot beat the silliness that is Camel Up. You bet on racing camels which can jump on top of one another, all while dropping dice from a pyramid. The 2nd edition with crazy camels only adds to the chaos. This one is a surefire hit for all.

8. BIRDS OF A FEATHER

I feel lucky to own this rare game, and what a wonderful game it is. A great introduction to drafting mechanics, BoaF focuses on bird watching and playing cards at the right time to mark birds off. Always a hit at game nights, I wish more people could experience this game.

9. TOKAIDO

Collecting souvenirs, meeting friendly locals and visiting spas, this trip across Japan is endearing, wholesome and a joy to experience. Whilst the game is competitive, its theming makes this game feel more like a pleasant adventure. Simple to learn, fun to play - what a treat.

10. TIMELINE

This series is perfect for family game nights, tasking players to guess when events occurred and place them correctly in the timeline. Getting years correct, reeling off limited knowledge you have and relying heavily on vibes - it’s a blast to play and offers plenty of replayabilty.

Hey @actualol.bsky.social, have you ever played Prey Another Day? It’s a charming game where you each have 5 cards marking five animals in the food chain. You play a card and try to guess others’ animals to eliminate them. I bought it a month ago and everyone I’ve shown has gone on to buy it!

A few weeks ago, I visited the F1 Exhibition in London. It was a fantastic experience, a real love letter to the world of Formula 1.

Seeing Grosjean’s car after the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix was haunting, but such a feat of engineering. It’s worth attending to see that alone.

So I’ve been learning how to brew potions in Minecraft at long last…

An hour well spent!
