PhD at DCU | Examining the post-conflict lives of Irish female Republicans through questions of legacy, memory, and gender | Research Ireland funded
Thanks so much to @nearfm.ie for having me in this morning to chat about my PhD research @dublincityuni.bsky.social, all things women in war, and the character of the knight in the Canterbury Tales! A really enjoyable conversation with Berni Dwan and Dr Jackie Uí Chionna!

Catching up on reading is infinitely better with a bit of sun. Finally making a dent in the stack ☀️

Delighted to celebrate the launch of Mary MacSwiney by my brilliant supervisor and dear friend, Dr Leeann Lane, this evening. A powerful and nuanced biography of a formidable and often misunderstood woman.

Congratulations, @lloislanel.bsky.social — so well deserved! @ucdpress.bsky.social

They were absolutely furry agents of soft power.
Silent diplomacy, strategic napping, and an uncanny knack for occupying key terrain (e.g. projectors, bags, hearts).
10/10 would deploy again.

Haunting entry in the diary of Sean Lester, the last Secretary General of the League of Nations, from 1st September 1940: “the news comes in that German troops have entered Polish territory at three points and that Polish forces are being bombed from the air. So it begins.”

The remains of Lazarus were taken to Marseille and later lost. In 1972, whilst the church in Larnaca was being renovated, a marble sarcophagus was found under the altar. Inside the sarcophagus were human remains believed to be part of Lazarus’ relics.

An unexpected find while exploring Larnaca: the bones of St Lazarus! In 898, the remains of Lazarus were transferred to Constantinople by the Byzantine emperor Leo VI. In exchange for these sacred relics, the emperor built a church (pictured) where the tomb was found. In 1204, Constantinople fell.
