She lunged, knocking Lenore to the ground, straddling her waist and leaning down close. “Have you forgotten what I am? You have no idea how badly I want to. How every fiber of my being screams to sink my teeth into your neck. One bite and it’s over.” Lenore’s breath hitched. Her head swam dizzily; she could not think straight. Not with Fen on top of her. “You do not want it to be over,” she managed. Warmth flooded her body where Fen’s weight pressed down. “Forgive me.” I do not want it to be over.

But I am stuck following you anyway.” They glared at each other. She could have lost herself in the deep shadows of Lenore’s brown eyes. They sucked her down, held her fast, refused to let her go. She never wanted those eyes looking at anyone else. Her hands shook with fury. She could claw her eyes out of her skull—but then they would never look at her again. Not with anger, or annoyance, or fear. Not with the strangest of warmths, either.
