Yesterday’s marches were a blatant expression of hate and division, with neo-Nazis and other extremist factions openly promoting racist agendas across the country. These rallies are a direct threat to everything we stand for as working people. Unions have a long and proud history of opposing fascism and Nazism. In the fight against Hitler, workers stood on the front lines of resistance, and we cannot forget the horrors of the Holocaust and the devastation caused by fascism across the globe. The labour movement has always understood that fascism thrives when working people are divided, and we reject those politics completely. We also condemn the storming of Camp Sovereignty in Melbourne, an act of extreme violence towards First Nations people. The CPSU, via the Victorian Branch Council, is continuing to look at ways we can officially become a Treaty Ally, and stand in solidarity with First Nations communities in their ongoing struggle for justice, sovereignty and self-determination. Our strength lies in solidarity, justice and collective power. As a union, we will always stand against racism, white supremacism and fascism in every form, and we will never let hate divide us.
