Oof yeah no that's definitely not a view the author espouses, but I do see how one could read that into the text. The characters are in positions of power facing impossible odds and are at time pushed to breaking their ideals as a result.

He got to this point by listening and taking feedback from his fans, so his earlier works are weaker in this regard, but today he's one of the best in the business. A frankly astounding feat for a Mormon.

Also, as far as a man writing women goes (a major weakness in the fantasy genre), he's one of the absolute best. The women in his books, be they main characters or side characters, are just as fully fleshed out as out as the men, with both rich internal lives and agency.

He had some pretty crappy views back in 2008, but he's gotten waaaay better, now openly supporting LGBTQ+ folks, and he's been actively working to support and represent LGBTQ+ folks in his more recent books.

Imagine thinking Sanderson still espouses the views he held in 2008, an idea contradicted by his more recent writing, actions, and straight-up statements.

The man writes fantastic, well-rounded women while avoiding all the major pitfalls of his colleagues? He also does fantastic, matter-of-fact representation for everything from race to sexuality/sexual identity to mental health issues.
