“Inauthentic feel” is where most haiku that miss the mark do so. I might call them “contrived” or “heartless.” What I never tire of reading are ones that make me pause & ponder, feel, or smile. Even subgenres like dad jokes can elicit that sort of response if heartfelt & thoughtful.

I read a lot of haiku and write some myself. The ones that stand out, that I memorize, share, & return to are very personal, based on real life experiences even if a prompt is involved. Some of my favs are ones masters wrote centuries ago, some I met on Bsky, some I wrote this week. 😉

There’s a Delete option in the dots. If something bothers you enough to make it worth deleting and retyping, you have that option. I do it sometimes with haiku; anything much longer might not be worth the trouble.😉

I like the French version of this better than the English translation I was given. I like the sound of toujours at the end. I would have translated it as “always” here instead of “still,” suggesting wounds aren’t just still visible but will go on being visible for a long time.

2/2 The most revered old Japanese haiku masters disregarded that guideline more than any other.

You have a good sense of what makes a haiku moment and how to suggest connection in an image using few words. I enjoy reading your work.

Love it in both languages 🥰
If you don’t mind your haiku being “modern western,” you don’t need to worry about syllable count. Some who write English haiku still like to count, but many consider 5-7-5 to be optional, with meaning being more important. Some of mine fit 5-7-5; many do not. 1/2
